New Zealand’s most creative and diverse street festival.

Whaea tō Taniwha! Ki te ahurei a CubaDupa!

CubaDupa returned to the streets of Pōneke this year, on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th of March 2024.

This free family-friendly event boasted two days of programmed entertainment, spanning music, art, parades, dance, body paint, experiences… you name it! CubaDupa stands for the extraordinary and we are proud to host the ultimate platform of discovery, innovation and cultural experiences in the heart of the Creative Capital.

As a fitting ode to the end of summer, CubaDupa was all about ‘Finding Your Wild’ as familiar city streets transformed into a vibrant concrete jungle. Every corner of the site was brimming with artistic wonder: a world of art and culture lurking right here in Pōneke, just beneath the surface.

A creative playground blurring lines between audience and performer.

CubaDupa has been running every year in Wellington since 2016*, making this year, 2024, the eighth CubaDupa.

Previous programmes have included mobile street theatre, pop-up performances, family entertainment, installations, dance, parades and musical genres spanning opera, rock, toi māori, brass, balkan beats, indie and post-punk. CubaDupa has truly cemented itself as a creative concrete playground that blurs the line between the audience and performer; offering inclusion, participation and artistic exploration for all.

CubaDupa is nurtured under the umbrella of Wellington’s Creative Capital Arts Trust, a non-profit organisation looking out for the arts and artists alike, also housing the fabulous New Zealand Fringe Festival.
