Jungle Drum & Bass
Dj Fortitude stumbled into Jungle and Drum & Bass music thanks to a bunch of rock climbing hippies at age 15 when he should have been in school. He soon caught onto local underground raves in Nelson NZ from the mid 2000s as an underage punter. The bug was caught and cheap decks bought.
Fortitude began DJing the odd gig from 2009, really only starting to make a name for himself in 2012 when he moved to Wellington and started DJing at Sandwiches and Fast Eddies also finding himself regular slots on local radio stations and a regular in regionals with Rumble in The Jungle DJ competition. Fortitude co founded SUB:BASS with friends and fellow competitors Bambi and Vasquez. With a mutual love for luscious big bass lines and smashing amen
breaks the SUB:BASS crew are known for big back to back sets together and individually laying down on the ones & twos (and threes).
Fortitude's style has evolved over the years and can easily blend into any set time or style, often favouring the heavier styles with more jungle influence but also rolling out the liquid and mellower vibes. The experience from competing often leads to more technical, high impact sets with plenty of variety calling on influence from many other genres not just Drum & Bass or Jungle.
Fortitude has played support for numerous kiwi and international artists including The Upbeats, State of mind, Trei, TC, The Prototypes, Aphrodite and more. Since 2017 he's been a host on rotation for SUB:BASS alongside local legends Frederick Crew and Bass Frontiers for NZ's longest running Drum & Bass radio show Future Funk on Radio Active. With previous shows on Fast Radio; The Gash - 2014, The Basslab - 2015 and No Chat Just Tunes on Central City Record Radio in 2012.
