Wāhine Toa Taniwha Mural
Xoe Hall, Miriama Grace-Smith and Gina Kiel are three multidisciplinary artists based in Pōneke. With a focus on mural art, they will be collaborating on a variety of projects and creating a new collective space together in 2021. These three wāhine toa artists have created the epic installation on the Ngā Taniwha stage, which tells the story of the two Wellington harbour taniwha, Ngake and Whātaitai, as well as people woven throughout the taniwha representing the first iwi Ngai Tara that Te-Whanganui-a-Tara is named after, their descendants and people who live in the area today. A huge thank you to Resene and Creative New Zealand for their generous support of this commission.
