Artist Expressions of Interest Open – CubaDupa 30th & 31th March 2019
The CubaDupa Street Arts Festival is an annual celebration of the creative spirit of the Cuba Quarter and the Wellington community. It is a free major event held over two days on the inner streets of Wellington city at the end of summer. Attracting 100,000+ people over the weekend, 2019 will be its fifth year.
Vehicles are diverted to create a pedestrianised zone and unique urban performance space. Seven stages are programmed simultaneously and the streets filled with people enjoying a wide variety of music, performances and activities, including parades, workshops, family zones, circus acts, opera, street art, visual art, virtual reality experiences and street food from local food establishments.
If you think you have an act or work that fits the festival’s vision to be a world-class, extraordinary, participatory and creative inner-city arts festival we would love to hear from you.Proposals: We welcome proposals for new works or the development and re-presentation of existing works. This is a curated festival and we are looking to programme:
- Stage Music
- Promenading, roaming and street performances
- Family focused; activities, performances, and installations
- Site specific; installations and performances
- Street Décor; Street art, costumes and installations
Proposals with a creative technology element that delivers work and experiences in new and innovative ways are encouraged.

Dress Up – Be Extraordinary!
Express yourself in extravagant style and join in the festivities as you weave through the streets and alleyways, surrounded by sights, sounds, and tastes!
The line between audience, performer, stage and street, is even more blurred for 2018, with a call-out for everyone to dress in extraordinary costumes, and dance with some of the world’s greatest street bands in the city centre of Wellington.

Join Friends of CCAT
Creative Capital Arts Trust (CCAT) runs both CubaDupa and the NZ Fringe festivals. The Friends programme enables people to connect with and support the vibrant performance scene in Wellington. Festival-goers and arts lovers are able to make a donation to support events for emerging artists, whilst building a relationship on the inner circle, and getting all the latest news and inside scoop.
Friends’ donations will be earmarked and specifically allocated to young and aspirational artists taking their first steps into the professional theatre and performance world.
