Volunteer

Volunteering with CubaDupa is a great way to learn skills, meet new people and have a great time working amongst an arts festival environment. You’ll become an essential part of the team and get a valuable insight into how the festival works.

If you’d like to get involved for 2025, fill out this form. If you have any questions or ideas around volunteering you can email [email protected] for more information.

Creative Capital Arts Trust also produces The Zealand Fringe Festival (February/March) – you can register your interest for volunteering at NZ Fringe or CubaDupa via the form.

WHAT YOU GET

CubaDupa volunteers will receive training on how to do your role, a free screen-printed Volunteer T-shirt and our deepest gratitude and thanks for your support. Once you’re done with your shift(s), you’re welcome to go out and enjoy the festival as an audience member!

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

We will get you to fill in a contact information sheet. All CubaDupa volunteers are required to supply emergency contact information to our office (which will remain confidential) and agree to let us know if you are unable to attend a shift or event you have signed up for. Basically, we need commitment from you to help us make the festival great.

WHEN WE MIGHT NEED YOU

We will need volunteers to help us throughout the festival on Sat 29 and Sun 30 March. This could include morning, day or evening shifts depending on your availability. We may need a few people to help us the day before the Festival on 28 March as well.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

There are a range of positions available to select and be appointed. Below is an outline of all the roles we have for the festival, if any of them sound like something you’d be interested in, please apply!

Greenroom Attendant

The greenrooms are a safe space for artist & volunteer bag storage and a place to rest, and recharge. You will be assigned to a greenroom that you will monitor and where you get to spend time with artists and crew alike.

Chill Out Zone Attendant

We will have quiet/rest spaces at CubaDupa that will have fresh water and seating available. If attendees get overwhelmed by the busy festival and noise, or simply need to chill out, these spaces will cater to that.

Info Booth Attendant

You are ambassadors of CubaDupa and often the only point of contact between the public and the festival organisers, so this is a very important part of the festival and one that leaves a lasting impression on attendees.

Merch Salesperson

You’ll be stationed at our merchandise stand to help run the merch sales during the festival. Experience with customer service, cash handling, and EFTPOS sales would be required for this role.

Event Support/Runner

The most versatile role and a great insight into the festival as you’ll get the chance to meet and work with members of the CubaDupa team. This role would be great for someone who has an interest in how festivals are run. It will involve setting up and packing down stations and other

Artist Minder

In this position you will be assigned to an artist to help guide them through the festival and orient them to the city. You will be given the artists itinerary and will be responsible for making sure they are in the right place at the right time and with all of their equipment.

Children’s Zone Minder

In this position you will be assigned to a Children’s Zone and help keep this space safe and child-friendly for families and their tamariki during the Festival.

Parade Assistant/Crowd Control

You’ll be right in and amongst the fun, assisting the Parade Leader by clearing a pathway through the crowds so the parade can follow its designated route. Your role mainly involves ensuring the audience does not impede the performance using friendly but firm directions.

Waste Warriors

In this role you’ll advise attendees on what can and cannot be recycled using our supplied bins. You’ll also help keep the CubaDupa team informed if bins need to be emptied and recycling removed. This role would be suitable for younger volunteers.

TRAINING

Training will be provided for all of the positions and if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask. You are also welcome to change roles if you feel like one is not a good match for you. Just let us know (preferably before the Festival weekend!) and we can make the changes. It is important to us that you get the most out of your volunteering experience with us. Most shifts you will be working alongside other volunteers and staff for additional support.
