Volunteering with CubaDupa is a great way to learn skills, meet new people and have a great time! You become an essential part of the team and get a valuable insight into how the festival works. This year we have over 19 hours of programmed entertainment jam packed into one weekend meaning that there are a plethora of different ways that you can get involved. Below are more details about the specific roles we are looking for. There will be full training included to ensure you’re fully equipped for the role.

Zone Minders

In this role you will be given a fixed location on the festival site and help direct attendees when they require help or in the case of an emergency.  You will be our eyes and ears on the ground and also the face of the festival for our attendees. 

Your job will involve: 

  • Keep an eye out for overcrowding and help in the flow of foot traffic. 
  • Answering questions or guiding attendees. 
  • Making sure crowds aren’t impeding any performances in your area.  
  • To report to the volunteer coordinator anything that might require attention ie lost children, rubbish pile up, broken glass, rowdy behaviour etc. 

Availability requirements: Short shifts are available throughout the weekend. 

 

Event support

The most versatile role and a great insight into the festival as you’ll get the chance to meet and work with the whole CubaDupa team. This role would be great for someone who has an interest in how festivals are run.

Your job will involve: 

  • Helping before, during and after the festival – Odd jobs, errands and supporting the core team.
  • Provide support to festival staff
  • Whatever unique skills that you can bring to the team. 

Availability requirements: This is dependent on your availability, help is required before, after and during the festival. 

 

Artist Minders

In this position you will be assigned to an artist to help guide them through the festival and orient them to the city. You will be given the artists itinerary and will be responsible for making sure they are in the right place at the right time and with all of their equipment. 

Your job will involve: 

  • Managing the artists itinerary and making sure they are on schedule
  • Orient the artist to the city
  • Manage public interaction with the artists – reporting in any issues to the volunteer coordinator.
  • Potentially help carry or move some of the artist’s equipment.

Availability requirements: Dependent on the artists schedule, will only be a couple of hours. 

 

Artist Minder: CUBASONIC

This is a similar role to the artist minder but for one specific performance.  CubaSonic is a musical performance that spans the length of Cuba St. It contains over 300 musicians from a wide range of musical organisations.

Your job will involve:

  • Managing your designated musicians itinerary and making sure they are on schedule
  • Helping your musician get from HQ to their performance site 
  • Ensuring that the crowd doesn’t impede on the performance
  • You may need to carry some of their equipment. 

Availability requirements: CubaSonic happens twice during the festival, once on each day. You would be required for about 2 hours on either or both of the days. 

 

Info Booth Attendant

You are ambassadors of CubaDupa and often the only point of contact between the public and the festival organisers, so this is a very important part of the festival and one that leaves a lasting impression on attendees.

Your job will involve:

  • Man our info booths which will include handling merch sales, GLOBELET distribution and refunds, and being a point of information for the festival – programmes, maps and answering questions.
  • Helping punters find their way, explaining any of the vendors or performances or answering questions.
  • Being a wealth of information regarding the app, programme, map, and accessibility info-sheets. 

Availability requirements: Short shifts are available throughout both days.  

 

Greenroom Attendants

The greenrooms are a safe space for artist & volunteer bag storage and a place to rest, and recharge. You will be assigned to a greenroom that you will monitor and where you get to spend time with artists and crew alike. 

Your job will involve:

  • Making sure anyone who isn’t supposed to be there gets in – being on the door
  • Keeping the space tidy
  • Keeping watch over gear 
  • Making artists/ performers feel welcome
  • Letting the Volunteer Coordinator know if your greenroom is running low on refreshments.

Availability requirements: Shifts available throughout the weekend. 

 

Chill out zone Attendant

We will have two quiet/rest spaces at CubaDupa that will have fresh water and seating available. If attendees get overwhelmed by the busy festival and noise, or simply need to chill out, these spaces will cater to that.  

Your job will involve:

  • Greeting and welcoming people
  • Helping keep the space tidy
  • Assisting people if they need help (pram parking, directing people, etc)
  • Help create a quiet peaceful space for people to take some time away from the festival. 

Availability requirements: Shifts available throughout the festival. 

 

Drop Off Zone Attendant

CubaDupa 2021 will, for the first time, have designated drop off and pick up zones. This feature is designed to help parents and people in need of mobility assistance. The zones will have ramps and toilets, and will be located on each end of Cuba Street.

Your job will involve:

  • Greeting and welcoming people
  • Providing information about the festival and where activations are
  • Assisting people if they need (directing people, being a point of information).

Availability requirements: Shifts available throughout the weekend.

 

Parade Marshal 

You’ll be right in and amongst the fun, assisting the Parade Leader by clearing a pathway through the crowds so the parade can follow its designated route. Your role mainly involves ensuring the audience does not impede the performance using friendly but firm directions.

Your job will involve:

  • Helping keep the parade on schedule and on it’s path
  • Keeping audience out of the way of the parade
  • Keeping an eye out for any potential hazards or obstacles to the parade or audience and reporting them in. 

Availability requirements: This is dependent on the parade schedule, however short shifts will be available throughout the weekend.
