Award-winning Te Tiriti-based duo Aro weave their distinctive blend of voices in te Reo Māori and English, crafting rich harmonies that carry audiences between the real and the fantastical. With storytelling at its heart, their music invites you into Tāwauwau - a magical world beyond perception - where soulful melodies, intricate vocal interplay, and shimmering soundscapes meet indie-pop grooves. Aro is made up of Charles (Ngāpuhi, Te Rarawa, Ngāti Te Ata, Ngāti Mutunga) and Emily Looker. Together they travel Aotearoa with their two young tamariki, writing and performing bilingual waiata inspired by the land, people, and the unique spaces they visit. Their upcoming concept album Tāwauwau (releasing 20th March 2026) weaves together fantasy and faith, wonder and wānanga - a reflection on beauty, pain, and the glimpses of another world we sometimes catch in this one.
