Pōneke Dub Stage
154 Vivian Street, Te Aro, Wellington
Step into the heartbeat of carnival culture at Pōneke Dub Stage. Inspired by Notting Hill Carnival and the legacy of reggae sound system culture, this stage celebrates music as a force for unity, resistance, and liberation.
CubaDupa is about reclaiming public space through creativity. Pōneke Dub Stage builds on that kaupapa, carrying the spirit of Caribbean sound system culture born from resilience and identity across the oceans to Te Whanganui-a-Tara. As tangata whenua, we acknowledge the shared ground we hold with our African and Caribbean whānau in telling our stories through art, music, and protest.
Powered by Hineraiona Bigbada Boom Sound System, Aotearoa’s sole femme fronted reggae sound system led by Queen Big Punch (Ariki Brightwell, Ngāti Toa). Built locally over the span of 4 years, Bigbada Boom is both a sound system and an artwork featuring a colorful cartoony aesthetic. Delivering amplified bass music with reggae, dub at its core!
A chill Sunday at Valhalla with high vibrations, delicious food from Good Times Kitchen, local art, and a limited-run Royal Jamaican Ginger Beer served at the bar.
