Firsts are always nerve-wracking and exciting! Join us at the Ngā Toi o Te Aro Pā stage for our first time hosting artist talks!
We will be joined by Paige, Tāmaki Makurau local, whose songs pull the heart strings and a well known Jonas brothers fan.
Lisa Tomlins, Te Whanganui a Tara local, a versatile powerhouse singer who is well known within the local music scene.
Paige and Lisa will be speaking about their passion for music, how they incorporate Te Reo Māori in their songs, and generational change within the music scene. They will be kicking us off after the mihi whakatau on the Ngā Toi o Te Aro stage at 12:45 pm – 1:30 pm, Saturday the 28th. We are very excited to hear these mana wāhine wānanga with each other. Both artists will be performing on the Ngā Toi o Te Aro Pā Stage on Saturday, 28th. Lisa will be singing with TNT! Reo Māori Project at 2:45 pm, and Paige will perform at 5:45 pm.
It doesn’t end there! Come back Sunday, the 29th, for our second Artist Talk. We take a pivot with alternative exploring artists whose music blends reo Māori in smaller genres.
HIRI is an upcoming Māori jazz, indie influence artist. Hirimaia started HIRI as a bilingual project in 2023, and she continues to explore ways to bring Te Reo Māori to tight-knit, smaller genres in the music scene.
Kahu is the people’s hype person, bringing his high energy to amplify the crowd through his alternative hip-hop. Kahu is grounded in his Māori worldview and blends with his storytelling.
HIRI and Kahu will be speaking about how they blend te reo Māori and Māori worldview into their music. They will kick us off on Sunday, the 29th, at 11 am – 11:45 am. We are very excited to hear how these artist are creating new ways in their respective genres. See HIRI at 2:45 pm and Kahu at 4:00 pm on Sunday, 29th at the Ngā Toi o Te Aro stage.
